1.
"Dr. Schantz, how do I know when I should see you instead of a
medical doctor?"
For
most aches and pains, and common problems effecting your family's
health, I can be your first contact for professional help. For
life-threatening emergencies, seek medical attention. My experience
and training in chiropractic, physiotherapy, nutrition and natural
medicine gives me a broad base of knowledge and a variety of therapeutic
methods to help you and your family. From your daughter's headaches
to your husband's heel spurs, and most parts in between, I can
help.
2.
"What can I expect on my first visit?"
You
will be warmly greeted by our office staff and we will collect
information to help us better understand your current condition
and past medical history. If you have health insurance, we will
ask for your insurance card and verify your benefits.
Next
we will discuss in private the nature of your symptoms, and address
your concerns. Based on this consultation, we will conduct an
exam, usually in a gown, to allow us to properly evaluate your
condition. Specialized tests are performed to help discover areas
of restriction, spasm, swelling, inflammation and malfunction.
If necessary, x-rays will be obtained, or you will be referred
for other diagnostic testing.
All
of this is done to properly diagnose your illness or injury, before
any treatment is rendered. The length and complexity of the exam
is determined by your condition(s). Patients in acute distress,
or those transferring from another Doctor of Chiropractic, can
usually receive treatment on the same day.
3.
"My doctor told me I have arthritis, would I be able to see you?"
Yes,
we help many people with arthritis in their spine and other joints.
Patients find that they have less pain and stiffness with our
care. Chiropractic is safe for women during pregnancy, people
who have had prior surgery, people with disk problems, children
and the elderly.
4.
"What kind of treatment and recommendations will help me?"
We
make the treatment fit the patient; not the patient fit the
treatment, so you will have an individualized treatment plan
tailored to your needs. Your treatment may consist of one or
more of the following procedures.
| |
*Adjustments
(careful manual or mechanical pressure placed on the spine
or other regions to restore normal motion to malfunctioning
joints.
*Manual Therapy (massage, traction or stretching)
*Physiotherapy (hot/cold packs, electrical muscle stimulation,
ultrasound, diathermy, etc. to reduce pain and promote healing)
*Meridian Therapy (non-invasive Acupuncture point treatment)
*Rehabilitation Exercise (stretching, strengthening & coordination
development, ergonomic counseling)
*Nutrition and Natural Medicine (weight loss, food allergy
testing, dietary recommendations, vitamin and herbal supplements)
*Healthcare Products (orthotics, cushions, supports, air
purification). |
5.
"How often will I need to come?"
This
varies from patient to patient depending upon how long you
have had your problem(s), prior surgeries, concurrent illnesses
or diseases, physical and emotional stress you are under.
Most patients begin to obtain relief in a few days or weeks,
others may take longer, if their problem is deeply ingrained.
6.
"What does it cost to see you?"
We
are preferred providers for a variety of HMO and PPO plans,
so care at our practice, for many people, is more affordable
than ever.

Our
fees are usual and customary for the Atlanta metro region.
Today most insurance plans offer chiropractic benefits. Some
are generous, and some are very limited. Each plan is different,
and varies by employer. Some plans require you pay only $10
for covered services, and others may have a $500 deductible
or more out-of-pocket expense, before insurance covers any
services.
Medpay
coverage on your automobile insurance will provide chiropractic
benefits, if you have been injured in an automobile accident
that has been properly reported and documented.
Injuries
on the job can be treated through Worker's Compensation insurance
with your employer, provided you have authorization from your
employer prior to your visit.
For
people with financial difficulties we have specialized payment
arrangements, where you can receive the care you need while
staying within a budget.

"I see so many chiropractic offices around Atlanta, what is
so special about your practice?"
When
the top two national chiropractic organizations teamed up
with Prevention Magazine to honor six Doctors of Chiropractic
in the whole United States with the "Chiropractic Award of
Excellence", they selected me to represent the pinnacle of
community service and clinical excellence for the Southeast.
I was also fortunate to be honored by the Georgia Chiropractic
Association with the "Humanitarian of the Year" award, a distinction
I share with former President Jimmy Carter.
Unlike
most locally trained chiropractors, I graduated with honors
from the National College of Chiropractic, near Chicago in
1986. National was the first accredited chiropractic college
in the country after being founded in 1906, and is recognized
as the leader in chiropractic science and patient care. Each
year I exceed the continuing education requirements for licensure,
which has allowed me to further my knowledge in sports injuries,
neurology, herbal medicine and other aspects of patient care.
The National Board of Chiropractic Examiners calls on me to
assist them each year with the administration of a practical
exam to judge the competency of recent graduates prior to
them being considered for licensure. I am the only Certified
Cox Distraction Practitioner in North Atlanta, a non-surgical
disk decompression method.
My
reputation as being a good clinician and cost-effective has
allowed me to be credentialed by the top HMO and PPO plans.
I have even been hired as a consultant to some major employers
in Atlanta to help them reduce back injuries and repetitive
stress injuries on the job.
